Introduction

Many parents are surprised when they're told that their child's bladder symptoms may actually be related to constipation.

If your child struggles with urinary urgency, frequent bathroom trips, daytime accidents, bedwetting, or recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs), it can be easy to assume the bladder is the problem. In reality, the bowel and bladder work closely together, and when the bowel isn't functioning well, the bladder often suffers too.

In pediatric pelvic health, this relationship is so common that it has a name: Bladder and Bowel Dysfunction (BBD). The International Children's Continence Society (ICCS) recognizes that bowel problems and urinary symptoms frequently occur together.

Understanding this connection is often the first step toward helping children stay dry, comfortable, and confident.
